GLOBA TENNiS monthly tip article is offered to you as little thank you note for regularly visiting our website and taking an interest in our tennis programs.

The key fundamentals that we teach in these articles come from years of observing world-class professional tennis players executing various tennis strokes while playing in grand slam and grand prix tournaments. Regardless of their individual technique and how they execute any strokes, there are key fundamentals that invariably stand out in their games.

This month’s GLOBA TENNiS tip concerns the Beginner and Low Intermediate levels, but since we teach tennis keys fundamentals as opposed to forms, this tip can benefit any level player.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions on our monthly tip, and if you would like to try it out on court with us we’ll help you master its use in just one session!

1. “The eye of your racquet”

The “eye of your racquet” is the bottom part of the racquet shaft, where you can see the racquet brand logo (Wilson, Prince, Head, etc…).

The benefit of using the “eye of the racquet” tip will help you ensure that your racket preparation is done with good timing while you are getting ready to execute a baseline stroke, forehand or backhand.

Very often you will hear tennis coaches say out loud “get your racket back early” when the ball is on your side of the court. Then, in great panic you will rush too close to the ball and swing erratically your racquet back and forth through the ball, often resulting in an uncontrolled stroke and not knowing where the ball is going: maybe the next tennis court, the park outside or the net if you’re lucky…

The problem is that coaches don’t always tell you at what exact point in time your racket needs to be back and ready to be swung.

Here’s the answer:

2. The key fundamental:

When the ball is on your side of the court and has reached its highest point after the bounce, that’s exactly when the “eye of your racquet” should be pointing towards the coming ball. This check point correctly done will guarantee that your racquet is perfectly positioned back and ready to be swung.

That’s also the exact point in time when you need to start swinging your racket to meet the ball: when it’s still at its highest point.

3. Going further:

Understanding and executing this key fundamental alone, will only help you have your racquet positioned back with the right timing before striking the ball.

However, in order to ensure that the ball you will then hit goes back over the net with the direction, the curve and spin you intended, other key fundamentals will need to be learned, practiced and finally mastered.

This is what we, at GLOBA TENNiS are here for: to help you understand the tennis key fundamentals, learn them, practice them, and finally lay the ground for a consistent and solid all-round game.

Contact us if you have any questions, or if you would like to sign-up for a session with us to practice this month’s tip.

See you on court!
